Coping With Anxiety During Menopause
Although pregnancy isn't a major concern for most menopausal women, anxiety can be. In fact, anxiety is one of the most common perimenopausal and menopausal symptom. Anxiety is something that everyone experiences during different periods in their life. It is normal to feel anxious, nervous or worried at times, but these are feelings that should not be felt constantly or make one feel overwhelmed or trapped. What causes anxiety during menopause? Menopausal women are more susceptible to anxiety due to the fact that their hormones are in a constant state of fluctuation as their body prepares to shut down its ability to reproduce. During this time, many women suffer from depression and high stress...
Pregnancy and Exercise For Women Over 35
Women who are taking into consideration pregnancy over 35 often think about how their bodies will adjust during the 9 months they will carry their child. Once you've done all the calculating in your pregnancy calendar and have had your pregnancy confirmed by your obstetrician or other medical professional, it's time to start thinking about how your current trips to the gym or at-home exercise routine may change. Exercise should be an important part of your daily routine and can be extremely beneficial for not only you, the 'more mature' mother, but for your baby as well. Besides the obvious benefits of having a healthy body with more energy, being in shape physically can help you to deal with the...

What's a person to do? You survived the downsizing - again! Or you have started your own business - maybe you did not survive the downsizing! You will have to find other ways to cope. Here are some suggestions: Set priorities: Look at the importance of the tasks, the deadlines and the impact of the results when determining which things to do first. It is...
Wealthy Affiliate University program, the most talked about affiliate marketing school has finally decided to increase the price. The Wealthy Affiliate members who value WA membership are not surprised though. Frankly, this has not been a day that we all expected about and never thought it would take so long for the WA membership fee to appreciate by a quantum leap. However there are many reasons outlined by Kyle and Carson and an increase in the price was expected. And this time the price is not gradual but in "leaps and bounds" only for the new memberships. The old members will not be impacted with the hike. It is all understood that we are not here to justify the increase but it is really hard to...
Losing Weight Naturally - Why and How You Need to Ditch the Diets
It is a well known fact that most people end up gaining back any weight they lose during a "diet" and often more besides. Research has shown that only approximately 20 per cent of overweight people successfully manage to sustain their weight loss over a period of time. So it makes good sense to try losing weight naturally rather than going for the latest "quick fix" diet trend if you want to keep off the weight in the long-term. A good approach to losing weight naturally is to think of weight loss as a by-product of making important health choices rather than it being your primary goal, as you are then on your way to addressing the underlying causes of weight gain and not just the symptoms. There...

Living Well in a Volatile Economy
An interesting thing happens to our brains and bodies when we panic or when we see others in panic mode. Based on the perception that there is danger, our primitive brain takes over from the advanced reasoning centre located in the prefrontal cortex and sends signals to the body that it's time for action. What's happening on a biological level is that the amygdala, an almond shaped area of the brain transmits the message to the body to release powerful hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol so that we can either run away or stay and fight. Our heart pumps blood to our arms and legs often lending us superhuman strength, this is the stuff of legends and news stories about people lifting cars up to...
Take A Flyer
Street marketing can be a cost-effective alternative to conventional television, print, and direct-mail advertising-especially if there's a good reason for people to read the flyer. Boston's Kung-Fu Tai Chi Club relies on flyers to publicize it's women's self-defense class. "Rather than be on page 20 of some little newspaper section, where people might not see us, we're on the street, actively promoting," says co-owner Yao Li. The small ads he used to place in local papers and magazines, at a cost of $150 to $200 a week, produced a 2% to 5% response at best. So, Li tried a grassroots approach. Students of the Kung-Fu Tai Chi Club spend two hours distributing 500 flyers in exchange for a free session...
The History of the Ninja Suit
A ninja, also known as a shinobi, was a covert agent or spy of feudal Japan. Believed to be originated from the 14th century, the ninja is trained for sabotage, infiltration, assassination and espionage missions. They were known for being extremely stealthy in performing their duties. Although the ninja is typically known to be wearing black outfits just like a samurai's, there is no written evidence that supports the speculation. Ninjas were depicted as dressed in black in the early drawings. Well known to be as dark as a shadow and as quick as lightning, ninjas wore all black to portray a sense of invisibility. It is a part of the ninja's responsibility to keep stealth, especially when they were...
T'ai Chi In The Information Age
#ffffff;" /> According to a twenty-year study by Kaiser Permanente, between seventy and eighty-five percent of illness is caused by stress, meaning that in the U.S. alone stress is costing us about one-trillion dollars per year in healthcare costs. Since most absenteeism is due to stress, US business is losing upwards of $300 billion per year. On a more personal level, it is disturbing to realize that aging is accelerated by stress, and stress is a growing issue with all of us. Studies show that change is stressful, even "good" change. So as we computer jockeys settle into the saddle of a new age of rapidly changing information, we need an edge that can help us stay healthy, sane, “younger...
How to Copy Your Way to Success!
There are three modeling positions. In your modeling process, you have to cycle through each and every one of them. The first is called third person modeling. This is a position you adopt when you are observing only open and observable behavior. This is one of the positions I adopted when I learned how to bowl. I simply copy by looking at how other people do it. A point to take note about third person modeling is that you can copy a lot but it does not ensure competence. You will have to at least do it yourself, otherwise, physiologically speaking, you will not receive the benefits of practicing. For most parts, certain gestures can be copied but the issue of whether it makes any sense to you...
Finding Our Center
Tai Chi gives us the opportunity to discover ourselves. Each of us has a center of gravity. That place where we truly reside, both mentally and physically. The Chinese call it the Tan Tien. The Japanese call it the tanden. It is a place located in the center of our lower abdominal region, approximately 2-3 inches below our naval and 1/3 the distance between the front and back of our body. In Japan the whole lower abdominal region is called the Hara. In order to find this special place, we need to sit or stand in a meditative posture while putting our concentration at this point. The Tan den or Tan Tien is something we all were all born with, however we never knew it was there and what function it...
Karate - What Is It Really All About?
This question seems innocent and easy to answer. But the truth is that it is not an easy question to answer at all, because it must be answered on so many different levels. "What is karate really all about?" Is it about learning some punches, kicks and blocks? Is it about memorizing endless forms? Is it about self-defense? Is it about health and fitness? How about making friends and socializing? And what about all of those buzzwords such as self-discipline, self-confidence, self-control, self-esteem and all of those other 'self' prefixes that cater to our already aggrandized egos? Some of us have already done our research on this topic to find out what karate is all about and we have found...
Anxiety - Am I Going Mad Or Am I Just Normal
Sweaty palms before an important meeting or event, silly thoughts about what other people think, fear of heights or enclosed spaces are all symptoms of anxiety. The degree that it affects our lives is the only variable which differs between individuals. When an anxiety of any form begins to cripple our everyday life where do we go for help? Anxiety itself is the direct result of a heightened state within the body. The individuals mental thoughts regarding a certain situation will generally lead to a manifestation of physical symptoms within the individual. Some people will stammer, sweat or just simply freeze with the onset of anxiety. Clearly the degree of the symptoms is the only differing factor...

y"> No one can stay in a good mood all the time, but you can feel pretty good most of the time if you put your mind to it. Here are some guidelines to help you stay positive the vast majority of the time. Now, it is natural for certain traumatic or extremely disturbing events to make us feel angry, sad or afraid. Survive a Fight - 5 Tips You Need to Know About Self Defense
Techniques like the straight punch or front kick are tools that enable us as martial artists to protect ourselves. Knowing these strikes and their ins and outs allow us to also know the most efficient time and place for their uses. But with so many ways of executing these techniques, strategies, principles and martial arts styles that teach concepts that can be sometimes contradictory to one another, it is hard to know which are most widely accepted as effective and efficient. But more important than techniques are the methods by which we employ them. Here are some very important rules to follow when fighting in a self-defense situation: 1.) Stay calm. If you cannot stay calm you simply cannot...
4 Tips to Stop Excessive Underarm Sweating
1. Wear clothes made from wool, silk and cotton. Natural fabrics allow wind to flow through easily. Such circulation will decrease sweat drastically. On sunny hot days, light-colored clothes will reflect more sunlight back which also helps a lot. A white or light hat is sometimes a must for you because your head control your body temperature. Make your head cool, then your head will let body sweat less. Dress in layers so that you can easily put off your coat when you feel hot and sweat start to come out under your arm. 2. Go gym and stay fit. Body fat can block the natural heat exchange between your body and the air. And we all know a fat person usually sweat much more than a fit one. Doing...
Feng Shui Bagua - What it Really Means
The Bagua is a collection of eight diagrams used to represent a range of interrelated concepts. Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of arrangement which includes the placement of buildings, objects and space in the environment in order to receive good energy, achieve harmony, and maintain a good balance between the person and the person's environment. Feng "wind" and Shui "water", the natural forces of the universe, were derived based on the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang and have been in practice since thousand of years ago. Each of the eight diagrams in the Bagua consists of three lines. These lines are either "broken" or "unbroken" representing a Yin or a Yang line respectively. Yin refers to...
The Wisdom of You
You know & feel it. You have a wisdom that is in the special gifts that only you can give to others. These gifts are what I call "The Wisdom of You." I believe that you and I may offer almost the same words or actions to others, but only your way will speak to some people. Some people can only understand what you offer by the way you offer it... by the way they can connect with you and maybe not me. If you don't share your wisdom, those same people may never "get the message". I was an elementary school principal for ten years of my 30-year public education career. Every year I would greet every class of students with a message about why they were in school. I told them that, yes, they were here to...
Ulcerative Colitis - Does Stress Matter?
No matter what anyone else says I find that stress does have an impact on my Colitis, I don't know why but that doesn't matter. All I need to know is that by staying calm and relaxed I can stay well. Feeling refreshed and alert. Now that's not to say that I have to be in a permanent state of chilled out bliss! Although that would be nice. I am realistic and realize that life can throw things my way which will get me worked up, so I take a practical approach to staying relaxed. What I aim to do to beat stress in my life is to have a period of half an hour a day which I set aside for myself to do something which will if you like unwind any stress I may have accumulated. There are several things I do...
The Chi Debate Part 1
e West many debates have surrounded the idea of Chi and if Chi really exists. Chi is a Chinese word that when simply translated into English means Energy and or Life-Force. The debate(s) typically starts around the so called manipulation of the chi life force energy. Often, these skills are seen demonstrated by advanced masters during cultural events, festivals or demonstrations etc. Unfortunately, to the average person these skills then appear to be along the lines of a circus sideshow or magic tricks where trickery or illusion and sleight of hand are involved. Also, many of the techniques of Chi Energy activation and cultivation have been kept secret so little explanation for the seemingly...
Managing Stress and Empowering Yourself Through Exercise
We all know, or have been told, that exercise is good for our health - our physical and mental health - but just how good is it for our mental health? Can it really help to lift us out of any uncomfortable, stressful condition: depression, anxiety, etc? Well, exercise can certainly help to boost our ability to cope with stress, for example the stress and frustration we might accumulate during a difficult day at work. Far better to release any such pent-up energy by some vigorous movement - running, swimming, martial arts and so on - than to seek out solace and well-being in a few drinks at a bar (probably a lot cheaper too!). Because exercise not only clears the body of toxins, but also works to...

Brain Class
l has rung, and brain class has begun. Norman Doidge, MD, and Sharon Begley, authors of "The Brain That Changes Itself" and "Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain" respectively, have made the idea of brain fitness common knowledge, and the marketers are flooding the marketplace with verbiage that seduces and excites. Lots of it is aimed at baby boomers, like me, who are worried that we will lose our faculties to Alzheimers. Boomers have all had a close call or two with our ultimate fate and hold fewer illusions about mortality than we did when we were youngsters, yet we continue to expect to be vital right up to the bitter end. There is a tremendous difference between Boomers though, and our...
Increase Flexibility to Improve All Areas of Your Life
Lately, the theme of flexibility has come up with many clients, ranging from children to elderly adults. How can we increase flexibility to enjoy a full unobstructed range of motion? Often, I recommend using gentle qi gong stretching, which resembles yoga only that the poses are specifically designed to open up energy meridians related to the spleen (an organ that energetically influences our muscle tone) and liver (an organ that energetically influences our ligaments and tendons). These stretches are then combined with dynamic (moving) postures to deepen flexibility-as it is easy to flex when one is statically stretching, but the true test of flexibility comes when we are moving. This is true of...

My Father Taught Me Kung-Fu of Life
It is a common trait that most people tend to take things for granted. If you were to observe some people around us, they seem to waste so much of what they possess in life. The old Chinese adage that says "No child is too ugly and no parent is too poor," has the equivalent value to that of the English proverb, "blood is thicker than water." In my country Malaysia, very often we see the despicable act of babies being abandoned, which has soiled the human value. Such social malady is unfathomable and the saddest of all, they are linked to mostly teenagers. I came into this world with my two other siblings. In the fifties, mothers were all housewives and fathers were tasked to put bread on the table...

Still others enjoy the level of discipline they gain from partaking in a martial arts class. The way it does this is by helping us let...
Megan Fox tattoos - shakespearean inspiration
Megan Fox was elected the most beautiful woman in the world for two years in a row. As a tattoo artist I cannot think of a better canvas for my creations. Unfortunately I wasn't the lucky guy who tattooed Megan Fox’ skin. She is just 22 years old but she has already got 8 tattoos. Some of them could be considered quite silly, some other are quite interesting indeed. A tribal tattoo on her left wrist shows two waves in a circular pattern (some kind of Yin and Yang style) representing her love for surfing. Megan once revealed her tattooist was drunk the day she got that tattoo. She also admitted she never really liked the way it came out, but she hasn't got rid of it yet. Her second tattoo...
Doing The Dance of Shiva - Slow and Smooth
I've recently discovered that doing the Dance of Shiva slowly feels really good. It gives me time to feel what I am doing. My inspiration for doing it slowly comes from a number of sources, one of the main ones being Tai Ji. I've been doing Tai Ji for a number of years now and what I now find is, that having learned to feel the movements while doing them slowly, it is easy to carry that "Feeling" into doing those same movements fast. In either case, instead of thinking about what I have to do I feel it. And I adjust what I am doing when I need to so that what I am doing feels good. I've started applying this to learning forms that are supposed to be done fast. For example, to learn to do a Gong Fu...
White Sun - The Heavenly Mantra
In the past, The Wordless Sutra was transmitted from heart to heart and from one Patriarch to another Patriarch. It comprised of five words and because it cannot be spoken out, it is then known as The Wordless Sutra. The term "wordless" also told us that this teaching is subtle and words are insufficient to explain its mystical essence and is not something that you can find from any religious texts. The Wordless Sutra is also known as The Heavenly Mantra. When we practise The Wordless Sutra, our heart will be in resonance with the divine energy of all the previous Saints and Sages. This divine energy will help in the cleansing of our heart and mind. It helps to balance our emotions and thoughts. We...

SMART Goal Setting
Goal setting is important whether it is at work, in management, in sports or even just dealing with our personal commitment. With proper goal setting, it not only helps to realize our dreams, it also constantly serves as a motivation to us and also providing us with a sense of direction of where we should be focusing. Without goal setting and resolution, we would not be able to achieve much in the long run. All successful people are able to set and achieve their own goals which will in turn lead them to achieving higher goal setting. Year 2007 has come to an end and it is now time to set new goals/resolution for the year 2008. But before doing so, perhaps we should individually review the goal...
